I freaking love these two! Seth has known Dave for years from playing basketball and funny enough, we learned that he was also my mailman at my first home. Small Rhode Island world…per usual! We were so thrilled when they booked their engagement session and wedding with us because, as much as we love Dave, we were absolutely smitten when we met Sam. (Sorry Dave!) She is the sweetest little thing…literally! She is so tiny and Dave is SO TALL! This definitely creates a bit of a challenge for photos, but we’re up for it!
We did Sam and Dave’s engagement session at Kinnea Azaleas and had an absolute blast with them! Plus that place is beyond gorgeous and such a dream to capture in photos. See below if you don’t believe us!
On their wedding day, we were a bit nervous about the very limited time we had for portraits before sunset (20 minutes, which on a wedding day translates to 10!). But these two are so natural together that it turned out to be no problem at all! Once the sun went down and our options narrowed, I decided to go a little bit out on a limb and asked them to trust me and follow me into a ditch on the side of the highway (not a typo!). Heels and all Sam followed me right in with a little help from Dave. The location reminded me of a scene from a desert and I just knew it would make for some amazing, unique portraits. Of course, some empty coffee cups an cars had to be photoshopped out but we will take it! Since they were game for that idea with no resistance I decided…let the shenanigans continue! I noticed a group of smokers gathered outside and asked Sam and Dave if cigarette smoke bothered them and they said no, so I approached the smokers and asked if they would mind blowing smoke around the newlyweds (yes really…not a typo again lol!). Meanwhile, since we couldn’t find anyone to turn on the market lights outside, Seth climbed around (shhhh!!) until he found an extension cord and got them on for us! A rather odd situation made for some pretty killer photos if I do say so myself! Helps that the subjects are so darn good looking!
Now onto the best part…
Hands down our favorite moment of the wedding was seeing Dave’s son Joey cry his little eyes out right after the ceremony because he was “so happy”. Sam is absolutely wonderful with him and they have created the sweetest relationship. The day before the wedding, instead of posting about her wedding, Sam posted “tomorrow I get to be this guy’s stepmom.” It was really such a Sam thing to do but still…pulls on the heart strings! Every time someone says that Dave and Joey are lucky to have her, her immediate reply is that she is lucky to have them…and you can tell she really means it! Seeing their reaction to becoming a family that day was really something I’ll never forget.
Congratulations Dave and Sam! You are a truly beautiful couple that we are so lucky to call our friends! We wish you two (and Joey!) a lifetime of love and happiness!

- A sweet moment pinning the locket
- Dave really didn’t want getting ready photos and that’s ok, we are here to serve the bride and groom so we never pressure!
- Seriously Joey… you are too cute
- This photo was very important to Dave and we love that we were able to capture it for him.
- No comment, it’s a family joke 😉
- Love this sweet glance at mom
- I could seriously make a separate post with just these images. One of the most beautiful moments we have ever photographed!
- Here is our pretty ditch!
- Ok, so maaaayyyyybe some photoshop was needed to get all three kiddos in one shot! I plead the fifth!
- Talk about another special moment. Step father taking a photo of father daughter dance!!! What a sweet gesture!
- ok, ya can’t give the pregnant lady a favor, have it be smore’s and expect her to wait until salads are done to dig in ?
- I hate these two images together… they are completely different and it doesn’t flow but I wanted to be a nerd and show how using light can completely change the mood of an image. Seth took the one on the left, I love it, it’s so dramatic and totally not the way I was going with it. I thought it was a cutesy shot and needed to be bright. Now I love that Dave and Sam will have both versions. This is why we never get bored 🙂
- Oh I hear you girlfriend ?
