The facts: 1. Derek and Gaspare had THE most elegant Palace Theater wedding in Connecticut. 2. They incorporated so much glam into their day in a way that was tasteful and full of class. 3. It was a simply perfect wedding day.
I have been thinking about this post for weeks (4 to be exact) and trying to figure out what in the world I can write. Mostly because I want to be sure that I will 1) do Derek and Gaspare justice 2) do this wedding justice 3) be politically correct. My biggest fear about this blog was to say something inappropriate – something that might make this post about the fact that Derek and Gaspare are a same-sex couple INSTEAD of about their wedding day. I worried that it wouldn’t be fair, that they might think we were trying to seek attention or worse, that they might feel like our “token” couple. None of these things are true of course! But, the truth is that being gay IS part of their wedding and most importantly, their incredible journey to their wedding day. And that journey undoubtedly wasn’t and isn’t easy.
Palace Theater Wedding Day
Derek and Gaspare had an amazing wedding day at the Palace Theater and it’s near impossible to narrow down what we loved most. But, our favorite part of the day, well aside from that memorable first dance, is when Gaspare read his vows and said: “I want to tell my 12-year-old self that it’s ok, everything is going to be ok and someday you are going to meet a Derek.” As you can imagine, there wasn’t a single dry eye in that room. We probably cried more than is professionally acceptable but we aren’t sorry! That part of Gaspare’s vows just reminds us that this day was about more than simply a wedding. It was a celebration of everything that brought them to this moment. Being a part of that celebration is something that we will never forget.
Seth and I still have chills thinking back on their day; the emotion and support they were surrounded with were palpable. I also don’t want to take anything away from the fact that their loved ones were so moved simply because Derek and Gaspare are both incredible people. The Palace Theater was the perfect place for this amazing wedding!
Ok, I’m having anxiety wondering if I have said the wrong thing but I think the images will speak for themselves! And let me tell you, this is one for the books. We can’t tell you enough how lucky we feel that THEY chose US. We are so thankful and hope that we can keep these two in our lives because they truly are so special to us.
