Massart Photography RI; Boudoir Sessions
A Boudoir Session Story of Beauty and Strength
Family, newborn, boudoir and wedding photographers serving Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut
One of our best-kept secrets isn’t actually meant to be a secret at all! It’s fun, girly, sexy…and makes a GREAT gift! Can you guess what it is?
Of course I’m talking about boudoir sessions! And I’m bummed that I don’t get to talk about them nearly enough! The primary reason is really just that most people aren’t comfortable having us sharing their photos from these sessions on social media, which is completely understandable! They are often done as a groom’s gift for the wedding or a birthday or anniversary gift that is meant to be intimate and private (Little Black Book ;)) but really, they can be done for any reason at all! Even just for yourself! I actually love that about these sessions and totally respect people’s privacy. But I also figured, it’s probably time for a little reminder that we offer these!
So let’s start with the basics…boudoir sessions are always done completely privately in our studio with just yours truly (Audrey!). I try to create a relaxed and fun environment with some girl talk, music and even a glass of wine if you’d like! I really want these sessions to be enjoyable and empowering. I find that women are often surprised that they come in nervous and self-conscious and leave feeling pretty awesome!
I also worry that some women aren’t pursuing these sessions because they think they don’t have the “perfect” body. First of all, show me someone who does and I’ll show you an expert Photoshop job! Second of all, perfection (or whatever your perception of perfection is) is really not the point here. The point is to treat yourself to feeling a little special, a little sexy…see yourself the way your partner sees you! And treat them to an unexpected gift that they will LOVE!
I was recently extremely touched and moved by a letter I received from one of our brides who did a boudoir shoot with me before her wedding. She shared some pretty intimate details of her struggles with body image issues and an eating disorder:
Hey Audrey! So I wanted to send you this here vs. your marriage email because I wasn’t sure if it was you that always sees those. Anyway, I have worked with you now, and have seen your beautiful photos for six years, and the quality of your work has never ever been in question for me; you are an extremely talented woman and I pretty much refer everyone I know to you when the topic of photographers comes up for anything, lol! This boudoir shoot for me was different though. I went in so terrified and unsure, and I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for how comfortable and encouraging you were to me that day. Whether you were saying it just to get the shots or not, you made me feel so beautiful and helped me let me guard down in a way I didn’t think I would be able to. I know I briefly shared my story with you, but explaining how much an eating disorder warps your self image is difficult. The way you look at yourself day to day, no matter if I am over weight or the times when I was under weight, is a difficult thing to over come, and I still struggle daily to like what I see in the mirror. You not only made me feel more comfortable and proud of my body than I have in a long time during the shoot itself, but having now seen these photos you have absolutely shattered my expectations and blown me away. You are a wonderful photographer, but after this shoot I truly value working with you so much more. Thank you so much for the compassion and heart you put into your work. You and this shoot have now become a positive piece in the giant puzzle that is my recovery, and I just wanted to personally thank you for that. Xo –Lauren
First of all, I am incredibly flattered by her compliments and so happy I could make her feel so comfortable. But more than that, I am thankful that this experience may have brought her a step closer to seeing what the rest of us see when we look at her…a gorgeous, strong (and sexy!) woman!
