A Rainbow Maternity Session by Massart Photographers
Family, maternity and newborn photographers in Rhode Island
If you have been with us for a while, you might remember our dear friends Tara and Louis who have been struggling with losing pregnancies for the past few years. I hear of women losing one pregnancy and I can’t wrap my head around it so watching my best friend suffer through not one, not two but eleven losses, I started to feel very helpless.
Well, this post is about the light at the end of the tunnel, it’s about the healthy pregnancy that happened as Tara and Louis started to wonder if they should keep trying. It’s about a little boy who is already so loved and who will grace us with his presence in just a few short weeks. Of course, any pregnancy is cherished but you can imagine how over the moon we all are about this!
With other misfortunes happening in the past few months, they have felt as if the pregnancy was followed by a dark cloud so as their friends, it was obvious that we were going to offer them our maternity photo services but we wanted to make it a little more special. What happened next is so truly wonderful and I hope it warms your hearts during the holiday period.
I really wanted to find a way to honor the losses so it was clear that rainbow would be the theme. A rainbow baby is described by Kicks Count as: “A “rainbow baby” is a baby that is born following a miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal death or infant loss. In the real world, a beautiful and bright rainbow follows a storm and gives hope of things getting better.” To read more about Tara’s journey and help spread awareness, feel free to read and share her blog posts: I have fertility issues not leprosy and 11 weeks…
My dilemma was that our style is very soft and whimsical and I was only finding dresses in bright rainbow colors. I wanted this photo to be whimsical but also angelic and pure. I decided to ask the Facebook community for help but I needed to be vague so it didn’t give anything away so I just asked for someone with sewing skills to contact me. A week prior, I attended a medium party at Heart of a gypsy with very low expectations and a very apprehensive attitude but I left there with my life forever changed thanks to one incredible woman named Roxanne. I don’t expect anyone to believe me, that’s not what this is about but I just wanted to document the story of how all of this came together in such a beautiful way. Anyway, Roxanne saw my post and messaged, she said “I don’t know what this is about but I need to hear more because I think I’m meant to do this”. I explained the situation and she was determined to help me create something magical for Tara and Louis. I insisted that she charge me for materials and her time but she insisted that even though she had never met them, she wanted to do this for them.
A couple of weeks later, I was visiting our recent bride (do you remember her insane wedding story? Check it out here) and now great friend Sabrina at her brand new salon Salon Sapphire (these people did not pay me for these shout outs I swear lol) and we got to chatting about this project. Immediately, Sabrina insisted on offering her hair and make up services to Tara; someone she had never met.
By coordinating with Louis, we were able to keep the whole thing a surprise and her reaction upon walking in to the studio was priceless. I will leave you here and let you enjoy what I hope to be a beautiful tribute to all of their sweet angels ❤️
Lastly, here is to three small businesses coming together to help each other out and more specifically, here is to women holding each other up!
